First let me state that I tend to rattle on. Just a small warning. *smile*

I have been stitching since I was 9 years old when my paternal great-grandmother taught me how to cross-stitch. I then moved on to making doll clothes with my paternal grandmother, my own clothes with my mother, and was introduced to quilting by my maternal grandmother (I even tried a crazy quilt at age 14). At 21 years old, my maternal grandmother coaxed me into using the cross-stitch squares that my great-grandmother, grandmother, mother and I had made in order to make a baby quilt for my soon to be firstborn. This quilt was used to wrap around my first child when I brought him home from the hospital. For many years afterwards, I focused on other forms of stitchery but in 2001, my oldest daughter expressed an interest in learning to quilt but changed her mind. However, I was still interested so I took a beginning machine quilting class and have been hooked ever since. What stayed with me through all of these activities was the generational connection. I am trying to carry this connection to the next generation by teaching my youngest daughter and niece to quilt. With my interest in computers, I make use of, and teach classes on, various quilting software plus quilting on the web. I was raised in the United States and Japan, have four grown children, one grandchild, and am married to Mark, my high school sweetheart.

In order to have space for my "little hobby" I converted my garage into a quilting room but I outgrew it. The hobby had taken over and I needed to do something else. So how about my own virtual quilt shop. Why not? I wanted something that I could do anywhere. We are just a couple of years from retirement so an eshop and teaching will allow me to go anywhere we finally decide to land. My husband, Mark, has served our great country for over 28 years now and returned earlier this year from his second deployment overseas in the past 2 years. We are looking forward to getting to stay closer to home and enjoy time together. Quilting, teaching and my eshop allows this. He, of course, will keep the IT equipment functioning properly plus he helps to stock in between working in his garden.

I was briefly partners in a brick-and-mortar quilt shop but found that I wanted to grow the business more slowly and not incur an excessive debt. I did learn that if you ever go into business with a 'friend' make sure you have a good lawyer. It was a worthwhile learning experience for me even though a costly one. Live and Learn! With the knowledge that I gained during the research, start-up, and day-to-day operation I knew that an eshop was the best use of my technical skills plus let me have the freedom to move about. I have a full-time job that does, at times, have some travel and late nights associated with it so I am unable to devote a 40 hour week to a shop. I really enjoy what I do - I've been a Data Architect/Oracle Database Administrator for over 22 years. But I want something that I can do no matter where we live that would also allow time for my projects.

That's it! So check out the shop and I hope you have fun! I'll be adding more items as I go along. If you are looking for something and just can't find it then let me know and I'll scour my sources to see what I can do. My kids say I can find anything!

Happy Quilting!
